Minecraft LIVE September 2026: Everything Announced

Minecraft LIVE September 2026 revealed the Fourth Drop 2026 (ice caves, the frostbite, the Freezing effect and jukebox playlists) and announced the Sift, a new dimension coming to Java and Bedrock in 2027. The show aired on September 26, 2026 from Mojang Studios headquarters. It also covered Minecraft Dungeons II, a Minecraft theme park and hotel, and sound effects packs.

Game update news

Fourth Drop 2026: ice caves

The fourth drop of 2026 adds ice caves, a cave biome that generates under frozen, cold and semi-cold surface biomes. On very rare occasions, it shows up on the surface.

Inside, you'll find packed ice, calcite, giant packed ice speleothems and new blocks:

• Icicles hang from the ceiling, fall and deal damage based on how far they drop.
• Ice crystals sit on the ground and give off light level 4.
• Brittle ice covers water-filled cracks called crevasses. It cracks and breaks when you stand on it, and you need Silk Touch to collect it.

Water touching blue ice also turns into brittle ice.

The frostbite and the Freezing effect

The frostbite is a new zombie variant found in snowy biomes. Regular zombies turn into frostbites if they stay in powder snow for 30 seconds.

Most frostbites hit you in melee and give you Freezing. Some spawn holding ice balls and throw them at you. Any frostbite can drop ice balls when killed, even if it wasn't holding one.

Freezing is an effect version of powder snow freezing. It deals damage over time and slows you down. You can brew an ice ball into an awkward potion to make a Potion of Freezing, and there is a Freezing tipped arrow too. Blazes, magma cubes and striders take five times the damage from it.

Jukebox playlists

This one matters to anyone who builds with music. Put a chest, trapped chest or any copper chest directly on top of a jukebox, and the jukebox plays the discs inside as a playlist.

1. With nothing playing, the jukebox grabs the first music disc in the chest.
2. When the song ends, it swaps that disc for the next one.
3. It goes in slot order, skips empty slots and non-disc items, then loops back to the start.
4. Ejecting a disc mid-song starts the next one right away.
5. If the chest has no discs, the current disc plays again.

The next disc's tooltip even says "Playing next." Jukeboxes also get a new texture.

Right now, an automatic disc changer uses hoppers and the jukebox's own redstone signal. After this drop, a chest on top handles the swapping for you. On JukeZone, the spawn nightclub sits inside a giant jukebox, with DJ JUKE taking song requests on the dance floor.

Is the Fourth Drop out yet?

Not yet. It is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026 as Java Edition 26.4 and Bedrock Edition 26.70. The current Java release is still 26.3 Wilderness Bound. On Bedrock, experimental versions of the features will come first in 26.60.

The Sift (2027)

The big closer was the Sift, the dimension from Minecraft Dungeons II. It is coming to both Java and Bedrock in 2027, along with blubs. It is the first new dimension in over 15 years.

Mojang said the Sift is only part of its plans for adventure in the game. That fits what the team said earlier in the show: "adventuring" is the long-term priority.

Sound effects packs

Sound effects packs are a new kind of resource pack. Texture packs change how the game looks, and these will change how it sounds. Mojang only said they are coming soon.

Wilderness Bound recap

Agnes Larsson looked back at 26.3 Wilderness Bound, the current Java release. She showed off ways the community used cushions and pointed out that a cushion is an entity, not a block.

Minecraft Dungeons II

The Dungeons II segment covered its lore, connected world, villager NPCs, jumping, inventory, talismans, rifts and the Sift. The show said it would release the Tuesday after the stream.

Switch 2, Education and creators

The show promoted Minecraft's release on Nintendo Switch 2, with support for Vibrant Visuals. It also marked 10 years of Minecraft Education and announced a creator platform to help fans who want to become professional designers.

Minecraft World and the Minecraft Hotel

Minecraft World is a themed land from Mojang and Merlin Entertainments. It opens at Chessington World of Adventures in 2027. Its headline ride, Escape The Nether, is an indoor coaster built by Intamin that moves through several Minecraft environments. The first Minecraft Hotel was announced too, where guests can eat, sleep and play.

The Deep Dig aftershow

After the main show, Ph1lza and Mojang staff including Vu played Dungeons II for the first live gameplay demo. Then Agnes, falsesymmetry and the head of vanilla Minecraft ran three challenges in the new ice caves.
